Soup Sunday 2013: 20 Years in the Making

Soup Sunday 2013: 20 Years in the Making

It’s been 20 years in the making and come February 24 at LP Field, the city’s finest restaurants will compete for the title!  Up for grabs? The title of Best Soup, Most Creative Soup and more at the 2013 Our Kids Soup Sunday.

Soup Sunday is the annual fundraiser for Our Kids, a local non-profit focused on "providing expert medical evaluations and crisis counseling services in response to concerns of child sexual abuse, and to increase community awareness, conduct research and offer education and training about child maltreatment."  Every February, the city’s best restaurants band together to support this cause while competing in a “soup cook-off”.  Some of the most unique and interesting recipes emerge for Nashvillians to come together and sample while enjoying an afternoon of family friendly festivities. 34th Annual Franklin Classic - It’s for the Kids

34th Annual Franklin Classic - It’s for the Kids

The alarm went off at 3:00 am and I sleepily found my way to the shower hoping the warm water would wake me up.  Wrong.  Thirty minutes later, I climbed into my car and made my way to downtown Franklin to help with this year’s 34th Annual Franklin Classic 10k/5k/1k.  Being my first year, I had no idea what to expect.  It was early, dark and I was tired.  But, I was there.  I found a place to park and made my way to the square. was contagious. As this year’s coordinator for the Kids Zone, I was immediately greeted with a flood of volunteers all ready to help.  We began unloading, opening and setting up.  Before ...

It's all about the Pink: Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

It's all about the Pink: Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

36 years young.  That's the age the late Susan Goodman Komen was when breast cancer took her life. Diagnosed at age 33 she passed away in 1980.  Inspired by her courage and positive attitude, Susan's younger sister, Nancy Goodman Brinker, wanted to honor her memory and help others facing a similar battle.  What she ended up creating was one of the most powerful, inspirational non-profit organizations devoted to eradicating breast cancer!  There is virtually no place in the country that doesn't turn pink during the month of October, from the National Football League uniforms to websites around the world!  All thanks to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  A truly amazing honor to a sister that died way too early. In 1982, the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was created. During the 25th anniversary in 2007, the organization changed it's name to Susan G Komen ...
